WOLF STYLE HAIRCUT ~Let's do it!~

It's important to get the right haircut to be an Oniikei. And to do it right, you will need a Wolf Style Haircut.

So, what is this thing about?

First of all, this is no regular stuff. You won't get to your local barber shop and tell "I want to do this". They won't know how to do it and they will take a shot the same way they did cutting hair at the barber school for the first time.

So you will need someone who understands what do you want: you need a Stylist.

If there is no stylist at the barber shop, just a bunch of old-fashioned barbers, this won't work even if they tell you it will be ok.

You need to go to a Beauty Salon. I know it sounds creepy (if you haven't been there before) with a lot of ladies there, but don't worry, they won't bite you and they will actually help you to build up your "pretty boy" style.

If you are a beginner, you will understand at this point (well, when you enter to the Beauty Salon) that from now on, a regular haircut will can from $15.00 to $50.00 USD.

Why? Cause they will wash your hair, prepare it for the haircut (if you are a curly guy, they will straight it up), they will cut your hair, and later they will show you how to "style" it (comb it) so you can have the haircut you want.

It's important to explain really good to your stylist what do you want, with pictures (please carry some pictures or they won't understand what do you want) and all the information you have. So, if possible, memorize or print this post and show it to the stylist before she begins.

I won't post reference pictures for specific haircuts here because there so many styles in Wolf Style Haircut, but search for them through the Internet. Be careful. Maybe you see every Wolf Style like the same, but they are different. You can combine them, but it will be hard for the stylist.

If you don't get pictures of each part of the head, don't worry. Just take basic pictures of the side and back of the head, and tell him/her to make them match to the front. When you show the pictures and explain the style, He/she will know what to do.

So, let's get a little bit of information about the Wolf Hair Style. I will post pictures to get a basic idea of each Wolf Hairstyle.

Thanks to AllAbout.co.jp for the information on Wolf Style Haircut and main styling recommendations.

IMPORTANT ADVICES AND OTHER TECHNIQUES TO ACHIEVE EACH STYLE WITHOUT SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY WILL BE SHOWN AT THE END OF THE POST.

WOLF HAIR STYLE - Main Information

The Wolf Hair Style became popular in Japan in 2006 and young people use it nowadays not only in Japan but also in many other Asian countries. From now on, we will call it WolfKei as it's easier this way.

WolfKei has some important features itself:

-Volume at the top of the hair
-Asymmetric cut (left side and right side are different in lenght)
-Soft Mohawk (hair is a little bit spiky)
-Wolf Layers (the layers resemble to the mane of a wolf)

For this style, the top of the hair is short and the following layers below the top layer are longer. This cut comes from the "high layer genre". This means that the length of the hair from the top of the head (the calvaria) is short and the length of the nape of the neck is long.

This hairstyle is called Wolf Style because the top portion of the hair stands (floating) like the mane of a wolf.

Wolf Style is flexible so it can match regular clothes and life style. For example, using a "Short & Natural Wolf Style" it will keep a clean and pure emotion and it goes perfect with the ones who wear a suit everyday. There is also the style in which the nape of the neck and the forelock is asymmetric, known as the "Medium Wolf Style".

It's important to have pictures during the haircut so the stylist can know what kind of Wolf Style is wanted.

There are different types of Wolf Style.

NATURAL + PERM TYPE WOLF STYLE

This is a WolfKei style that required a PERMANENT WAVE Hairstyle. So people who has straight hair will need a PERMANENT WAVE Job. Wavy hair will be ok as long as the straight up process doesn't take too much time.

Even when it need permanent wave job, there are many different kind of arrangements for this hairstyle and it's the most quality Wolf Style between the "Natural Type". With this hairstyle, an good arrangement for both work and private life is possible.

-SHORT HAIR STYLE FOR THIS TYPE-

Using wax and gel (both of them), rise the forelock and the top portion of the hair, so the hair ends come out. This style will give the feeling of a UK rock musician.

-LONG FORELOCK STYLE FOR THIS TYPE-

Using glossy wax, control the volume. Create the dividing line of the head with a 6:4 proportion. It gives an intellectual impression.

-"FOR ENTERPRISE AND PLACES WITH RULES" STYLE FOR THIS TYPE-

Creating a a permanent base...

For working hours: use gloss wax and grease. It will give a femenine and fresh feeling.

For off time hours: use mat type wax to rise the hair ends and get a wild feeling.

Type of hair: Straight or Wavy Hair
Weight of hair: from Light to Heavy, OK
Hardness of hair: from Soft to Very Hard, OK

NATURAL TYPE WOLF STYLE

This WolfKei style gives a pleasant natural impression.

This style is a recommendation for those who naturally dress in a smart way, so the hair will give a refreshing feeling, as it's a high sensitive style.

It doesn't matter if there is too much hair or just a few and regardless of its weight, this hairstyle can be done.

For spiky edge style, it's good to have a light perm so the hair ends can float smoothly. Otherwise, a body perm it's recommended so it can get even more volume.

If the forelock is curly or wavy, it must be straighten up to keep the hairstyle beautiful.

Just use glossy wax to "style" your hair and you can do this just in 5 minutes. It will be perfect for Casual Western style (in case you decide to not war Oniikei) and it will be great to use with a suit.

POINTING ASYMMETRY TYPE WOLF STYLE

This WolfKei style has a feeling of solidity, drawing highlights.

It's recommended for a short Wolf style and it will give the sensation of long hair, even when it's not. Just by rising up the hair on the top portion, it will become a Wolf style.

For this style, really hard wax must be used on the top portion so it can draw the highlights and also give the sensation of move. Then it must be finished with hard spray.

The forehead will be arranged so it looks like it's floating at each side of the head.

If the person has a rounded face or long face, it's recommended to cover the face just a little bit, so it will create a good silhouette.

If the face has a square shape, styling is difficult as it won't cause good emphasis, so this process would take some time to get it right.

If the face has a triangule shape, because the chin has some empashis itself, no recommendation can be done for the forelock, but it's recommended to let the hair long enough to be visible under the chin.

IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR STYLING

So we have checked every Wolf Style available. The pictures show the basic haircut and I think it's clear how to create each one.

But what about the long and wild hairstyles from the Oniikei?

It's easy. Just let it grow!!

I will show you then the important recommendations here:

-Either you want it wavy or straight, it will grow and be as cool as any Oniikei style. The key is asymmetric cut.

-If it's Oniikei style, it won't be good to have it like the Natural + Perm Type if it's too long. Any other style can be really good even short or long.

-To avoid the perm for the Natural + Perm Type, you must have wavy hair and use the iron everyday. It will take some time but it's cheaper.

-To avoid Perm for Natural Style, just use the iron. It doesn't matter if you have straight or wavy hair.

-If you have wavy hair, use the iron wisely. you have straight but cool hair. You don't want to look like an old witch, so learn to use the iron (ASK TO THE STYLIST HOW TO USE IT FOR YOUR STYLING!)

-You will have to use the iron for the hair ends, even if you have straight hair. So get a really good one (about $100.00 USD) to avoid losing time styling your hair. Otherwise, you can buy a cheaper one ($20.00 USD) but it will take like 40 minutes to straight up your hair.

-You will have to take care of your hair, so don't pull it when using the iron or your hair ends will split.

WHEN STYLING, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS PROCESS:

1. Use iron to straight up your hair. Use the iron to define the direction of each lock of your hair and give volume to them (You will need some practice for the volume part). You must get your hairstyle "almost done" here. Remember to straight up the forelock and straight up the nape of the neck so the hair ends point out in a "U" shape.

2. Use HARD SPRAY like this:

-Side: Pull your hair up and use spray from long distance. Then let the hair go down.

-Back: Use spray from long distance. Don't mess up with your hair at the back or you will get an Emo Style.

-Front: Don't use hard spray at all.

-Top of the head: From mid-distance, use A LOT of spray as you rise your hair.

3. Get really hard and glossy wax or combine gloss and hard wax, using first the glossy one. Be careful if you have wavy hair, because glossy wax may get you a little wavy if you have straighten up your hair 100%.

If you are using gloss wax first, be careful with the forelock to avoid wavy hair. Use gloss wax at the hair ends and then push it to your hear, into the locks.

Later, get very hard wax and use two fingers of it. Mix it in your hands and use it like this, in this order so you can get right definition for each part of the hairstyle:

-Side: Pull your hair to the back so you won't get volume (this will avoid looking like Krusty, the Clown), and with your fingers, make a "3", so you can pull it out and it will look like the wind has blown over 3 spiky hair edges.

-Top of the head: go from the bottom of the locks and highlight each one of them. Get each spike well done and get perfect volume for them. You must get 3 layers, the bed with the long ones, the niddle one giving volume, and the top one so you will look like a cool rooster.

-Back: Styling is important for each lock, so highlight each of them but don't mess it up.

-Side Again: For the part that is just across the forelock, just pull straight down with the remaining wax.

-Back Again: For the nape of the neck use almost no wax, use it just for the hair ends.

-Front: You will be almost out of wax. your use it for tue forelock ends.

AND THE FINAL RECOMMENDATION: TRY CHANGE THE COLOR OF YOUR HAIR TO LIGHT BROWN.

Black is cool but light brown will look really cool with the style. Blonde hair will definitely give you the Oniikei style, but be careful because it can be risky for your life style.

Green, orange, pink, blue and any other color is for Ganguro, so you may not choose them.

So, take this to you stylist and you will be good. Practice a lot of styling and good luck!
